Showplace

Today we escape April’s  winter wonderland (wondering why it is still winter) and her 10 inches of newly fallen snow. We’re heading south to High Point, NC for the Spring furniture market and warmer 80 degree weather.

The High Point Furniture Market is where twice a year we get our creative juices recharged!  It’s like spending a week walking thru a live magazine.  This magazine is so enormous it’s impossible to see all of it.  There are 180 buildings that spread out over the whole of downtown High Point and the surrounding area. There are over 11.5 million square feet of showroom space, many in multi-story buildings.

rice-krispie-eggs

Last year we collected a basket full of those ever plentiful, colorful little plastic Easter Eggs and turned them into our favorite treats. This was voted the most favorite cook together. Round up your kiddos and give it a try.  This time, we are changing it up a bit and hiding some M&Ms in the centers of the Rice Krispies as we shape them into eggs.

Tried and True Easter Egg Stuffing Recipe

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40) regular marshmallows
  • - OR -
  • 4 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Direction
1. In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until they are completely melted. Remove from heat.

2. Add Rice Krispies and stir until well coated.

3. Using a buttered spatula, stuff  the mixture into your little plastic eggs which you will see are perfect molds.

WARNING: Two batches may be necessary to fill your eggs. At our house, the stuffing disappears quickly before making it to stuff the eggs.

We’re hoping your family enjoys This Week’s Recipe For Fun!

1

Don’t forget your feathered friends on St. Patrick’s Day.

This activity is a perfect do together with young children. All you need is green pipe cleaners and some Fruit Loops.

2

String the Fruit Loops on to the pipe cleaners.

3

Erin and Erica complete the project by shaping the pipe cleaners in to Shamrocks.

4

The Shamrocks are now ready to hang on trees outside and making a fruitful St. Patrick’s Day for the birds!

Fruit Tree

The Crafty Crow adds fresh fruit to the trees. We think this would be an ideal pairing with the Shamrocks.

Fruit Garlands

Playing By The Book kicks it up a notch for their neighborhood birds with  gourmet fruit garlands.

Birdhouse

Building a bird house feeder for our young birdwatchers looks like a weekend project for this cold St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Pop over to Bless This Mess and you will find the construction instructions.

Training Dresser

How About This?

What do you think about a training dresser? The drawers are cleverly shaped like the appropriate clothing items. Even your youngest helper should be able to find the sock drawer.

It comes in two gender specific designs made from all kid-friendly components that are  hand crafted and packaged with care in Eastern Washington by the crew Mountain View Cabinetry.

Hats off, well shorts, shirts, socks and pants to designer Peter Bristol.

Girl's Training Dresser

Dresser drawers shaped like clothes

The Minimalist  Mom suggests “stop folding laundry!” She says

“with many loads of laundry washed every day, not folding t-shirts, jeans and underwear saved her hours a week.” With that concept and this dresser, children could be given freshly washed laundry that was never folded but  just sorted  right  into the drawers.

Today a truckload of dorm chairs arrived in oh so many colors. A few of us grabbed our favorites and tried them out.  Take a look at the other fun colors: Chili Pepper Red, Zebra, Purple, Pinki-ini, Lime-anade, Patriot Blue, Monumental Grey, Tangerine Tango and Stretch Limo Black.

Now we invite you too to stop in and please be seated in your choice Dorm Chair.

We missed a few team Totally members this week all struck with  with various nasty bugs.

Our Haba Doctor Kit is a classic favorite for junior doctors.

Look at this DIY Halloween Garland idea featured on Forty-Two Roads. We are handing this one over to Erin, our Halloween decorator. Let’s see what see will do with it?

These Spooky Spider Deviled Eggs were a huge hit last year. You might want to try making them with the kiddos for a fun together cooking time.

Deviled Eggs, always for Halloween, but this year we’re laying (out) special spider eggs to creep out some friends.

Ingredients

  • 3 slices bacon (3 oz.)
  • 8 hard-cooked large eggs
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons thinly sliced green onions
  • 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation

1. In an 8- to 10-inch frying pan over medium-high heat, cook bacon, turning slices as needed, until browned on both sides and crisp. Transfer to paper towels to drain. When cool enough to handle, crumble bacon.
2. Cut each egg in half lengthwise; gently scoop out yolks and place in a bowl. Mash yolks with a fork, then stir in mayonnaise, green onions, mustard, and crumbled bacon until well blended. Add salt and pepper to taste.
3. Spoon about 1 tablespoon yolk mixture into the hollow of each egg-white half. Serve immediately or cover and chill up to 4 hours.

Our back to school assignment: find a collection  that’s ahead of the curve!

The Locker Loft.

Study and ZZZ’s Loft.  A sit sack that will go wherever you go.

Lockers for colorful storage.

Start the new school year off right with a crisp bright white.

What’s the angle? Don’t forget your protractor for this bunk. Look at that ladder, and then check out the corner desk tucked under the top bed.
