Dunkin Donuts

Tomorrow, June 7th, is National Donut Day!  Where are you going to get your sweet fix? Makers across the U.S. are celebrating by offering free donuts.  Krispy Kreme, some believe is the real creator of  National Doughnut Day (event page on Facebook), invites folks to visit  one of their participating stores  to get a free donut of any variety, and NO purchase is necessary.  You can get an almost free donut at Dunkin’ Donuts: FREE DONUT of your choice with any beverage purchase.

Created by The Salvation Army in 1938, National Donut Day was started as a fundraiser to help those in need during the Great Depression and to honor the “donut lassies,” female Salvation Army volunteers, who provided writing supplies, stamps, clothes-mending, home-cooked meals and donuts for soldiers on the front lines.

Dougboys became the nickname for the homesick frontline warriors during World War I, who eagerly awaited the arrival of the Doughnut Girls. For them, doughnuts were the key symbols of home.
